Josh Carlile started his coaching career as the varsity co-head coach of the high school softball program from 2003-2006. Since taking over the program completely in 2006 Manteno High School has a record of 253-99 (.719%). In Carlile's tenure MHS has won three conference championships. The program has also won four regional championships and was sectional runner up once and sectional champions once. Manteno Softball claimed a super sectional championship in 2014. In that same year Manteno claimed second place at the state tournament. Carlile was named the I-8 coach of the year in 2007, 2011, and 2014 and The Kankakee Daily Journal Coach of the Year in 2014. In addition, Carlile was named as an Illinois Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2014. During the 2014 season Manteno earned a naional ranking of 23 by ESPN. Carlile believes that hard work and strict discipline help prepare his athletes to become successful members of society.

In addition to coaching the High School team, Carlile has been coaching The Manteno Middle School Softball team since 2002. During his tenure at the MS the Panthers have placed second in conference three times and won three conference championship. The MS team has also won 5 regional championships, 3 sectional championship, and earned trips to the state tournament in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The 2009 MS softball team went on to win the state tournament. Coach Carlile was named the Kan Will All Sports Coach of the Year in 2009.

Carlile coached traveling softball for three years. His travel teams earned World Series births in all three seasons (NSA 12 and under twice and ASA 16 under). In 2016 Carlile was selected to coach a team of US athletes internationally (Europe). While playing internationally Carlile's team went 2-3.

Carlile was a two sport athlete in high school competing in baseball for four years and football for two. Josh's pony league baseball team won the 1992 world series in which Carlile was a catcher and second baseman. Coach Carlile earned a scholarship to play college baseball before deciding to enter the United States Army.
